Massage is a great preventative; a skilled and experienced therapist can identify areas of tension and dysfunction that would likely progress to an injury that could lead to time off work or away from your hobbies.
Regular massage is often recommended to support a person’s recovery and ongoing health and mobility. However, the benefits of regular sports massage are broad, and can include:
Sport and remedial massage has benefits for everyone, it's not just for sports people. Adrian has helped many people including:
For sports people
Most of us are not professional athletes and have to combine, often physically demanding work roles (sedentary and active roles apply stresses to the body in their own way) with an active sporting life. It is often these two issues combined that can lead to injury.
While professional athletes are at risk of sports specific injury it is the ‘working athlete’ who can become injured due to generalised fatigue and over-training when they fail to consider the demands of their jobs in combination with the demands of their chosen sport.
Sports massage can be highly beneficial when it is made an integral aspect of your training programme whether you are injured or not. Adrian works with a number of sports people, including young people with a promising career ahead of them. Aside from improving performance, regular sports massage can help you avoid injury and extend your sporting career.
What can I expect?
There is a belief, perhaps through misconception or through previous negative experience, that sports massage is painful. While sports massage does work deeper than, say, holistic massage, it should not be painful; in fact, pain can be counter productive.
Adrian’s sports massage works deep into the tissues but gently so that you get all of the benefits but without unnecessary discomfort. Communication with your therapist is vital so don’t be afraid to ask for pressure to be increased or decreased depending on your preference.
Due to the nature of massage, there will be a level of skin exposure. Please be assured your modesty and comfort are of paramount importance and towels are provided as you would expect. Should you wish to bring a chaperone, you are more than welcome to do so. For those under the age of 18 a chaperone is compulsory and must be the child’s/young person's parent or legal guardian.
Adrian will always work within his scope of practice so please do not be offended if you are asked to consult with your medical practitioner prior to commencing therapy.
Appointments are available at our clinic at Golf4U, Unit 66 Maple Leaf Business Park, Manston and a mobile service is also available for those who cannot access the studio due to disability.
